Purpose

2026 LISM League Rules LONG ISLAND STAN MUSIAL BASEBALL LEAGUE 2026 SEASON 2026 LISM LEAGUE RULES GENERAL INFORMATION: The purpose or purposes, for the Stan Musial Baseball League: To organize games, contests, physical exercises, sports and athletics for the sport of baseball; specifically for organized teams to compete in league competition, to provide fields and facilities to accommodate said teams, to elevate the standards of the game. To maintain a high plane of physical and moral excellence, to enlist the cooperation of all persons to that end. To promote and encourage the sport, pleasure, exercise, and recreation of its members, and to promote sociability and friendship among its members.

Player Rules

  • 1. EACH PLAYER must HAVE FIRST and LAST Names AND UNIFORM NUMBERS [Home Plate Umpire to verify]
  • 2. EACH PLAYER MUST have a jersey with a unique #. No duplicate numbers are permitted.
  • 3. ALL PLAYERS MUST have their physical ID, Copy of ID or have their manager keep copies of each players with them at the field for each game.. If a PLAYER is asked to provide ID and they are not able to do so, that PLAYER will be immediately removed from the game. That player will then have 24 hours to supply a copy of their ID with photo to the League Office for verification. If it not done within 24 hours and the offending team won the game in question, that game will be forfeited.

Rules Highlights

  • 1. A/B BATTING starting at any position IS ALLOWED, 3 PER TEAM.
  • 2. If a team only has 9 players, the opposing team will have the option of batting 9 as well.
  • 3. RUN RULE -- 12 RUN DIFFERENTIAL after 5 1/2 or 6 complete innings. After 6 complete innings, as soon as the 12 RUN DIFFERENTAL is met, the game will be declared FINAL.
  • 5. All weeknight games will be 7 innings.
  • 6. ALL TEAMS MUST use LEAGUE BASEBALLS, NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  • 7. One intentional walk per team, per game. Pitches are not thrown. [MLB Rule]
  • 9. 2 FORFEITS -LEAGUE EXPULSION. If a forfeit occurs, the team must pay full umpire fees by next scheduled game.

Rules And Regulations

  • 1.All doubleheaders will be 7 inning games unless both managers agree to a different amount of innings..
  • 2.Once a pitcher is removed from the mound he may not return to pitch in that inning, but may re-enter to pitch one time only. This can be used for only one pitcher per game.

Courtesy Runners

  • 1. [44+ DIVISION] - can have up to 3 Courtesy instead of normal 2 allowed. COURTESY RUNNER] The THIRD COURTESY RUNNER MUST be either for the PITCHER or CATCHER. RUNNERS / COURTESY RUNNERS MAY ATTEMPT a straight steal of 2nd or 3rd base. "A player must not be kept on the bench to be a runner only." PITCHERS and CATCHERS can be exempt from running for s batter needing a courtesy runner.
  • 2. If a batter [designated as needing a courtesy runner] opts to run or forgets to get a runner and subsequently runs, he will lose his designated runner status for the remaining portion of game [USE IT OR LOSE IT]

Courtesy Runners

  • 1. CAN HAVE UP TO 3 COURTESY RUNNERS INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL 2 ALLOWED. THE THIRD COURTESY RUNNER MUST BE EITHER FOR THE PITCHER OR CATCHER AND WILL STAY WITH THE POSITION IF THAT PLAYER IS REMOVED FROM PITCHING OR CATCHING.
  • 2. COURTESY RUNNERS MAY NOT ATTEMPT TO STRAIGHT STEAL [CAN LEAVE ON PITCHER'S DELIVERY] OF 2ND OR 3RD BASE.
  • 3. PITCHERS AND CATCHERS CAN BE EXEMPT FROM RUNNING FOR A BATTER NEEDING A COURTESY RUNNER.
  • 4. IF A BATTER [DESIGNATED AS NEEDING A COURTESY RUNNER] OPTS OUT OR FORGETS TO GET A RUNNER AND SUBSEQUENTLY RUNS, HE WILL LOSE HIS DESIGNATED RUNNER STATUS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE GAME. [USE IT OR LOSE IT!]

UMPIRE DISPATCH NUMBER [631-772-4645] UMPIRES NEED TO BE CALLED AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO 90 MINUTES PRIOR TO GAME TIME TO CANCEL A GAME FOR WEATHER FOR TEAMS WITH A FIELD PERMIT, PLEASE CHECK YOUR FIELDS AND NOTIFY UMPIRES/OTHER TEAM PRIOR TO GAME TIME IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL. FOR LEAGUE FIELDS, IF LEAGUE ADMINISTRATION RECEIVES NOTIFICATION THAT A FIELD IS UNPLAYABLE, WE WILL INFORM TEAMS IMMEDIATELY. IF NOT, TEAMS NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO CHECK OUT A FIELD AND NOT JUST CANCEL. IF A MANAGER, COACH OR PLAYER CAN CHECK OUT A FIELD TO DETERMINE IF UNPLAYABLE, THEY CAN NOTIFY UMPIRES/OTHER TEAM TO CANCEL. PLEASE NOTE, WE LEASE TIME AT ALL FIELD LOCATIONS AND THE DECISION TO CLOSE IS DETERMINED BY FIELD FACILITY. LEAGUE ADMINISTRATION HAS NO CONTROL OVER THESE DECISIONS, SO CONTACTING US WILL NOT CHANGE DECISION.

Forfeits / fees at field

FORFEITS/FEES AT FIELD [ADDED 4/26] - TO CLARIFY IF A TEAM DOES NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF PLAYERS AT THE FIELD PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED START TIME OF THE GAME, AND AFTER A 20 MINUTE GRACE PERIOD, THE GAME WILL BE DECLARED A FORFEIT. THE FORFEITING TEAM WILL BE RESPONSIBLE, FOR PAYING BOTH UMPIRE FEES AT THE FIELD. IN THE EVENT OF A DOUBLEHEADER, IF UMPIRES ARE ASKED TO STAY TO WAIT FOR A SECOND GAME, AND A TEAM IS STILL UNABLE TO FIELD ENOUGH PLAYERS THAT TEAM WILL ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY BOTH FEES TO THE UMPIRES FOR THE SECOND GAME. ANY TEAM THAT DOES NOT PAY THE REQUIRED FEES AT THE FIELD WILL BE SUBJECT TO NOT HAVING UMPIRES ASSIGNED FOR FUTURE GAMES UNTIL PAYMENT IS MADE. April 23, 2026

    Rosters & free agents

    All rosters must be a minimum of 14 players with a team maximum of 30 players. Rosters must be entered on league website by June 15th. Once a player has signed a roster he becomes a member of that team unless he is released before June 15th. Once a player has participated with a team, he is considered locked into that team for the season. The only exception is if a written waiver is given from the affected team Manager, and is approved by the league. All players become free agents on September 1st..Teams must have eight (8) players for an official game. ADDENDUM - Preliminary Rosters must be on the website by June 1st for Summer Divisions to include DISPLAY STATS for every player. All other divisions, Preliminary Rosters by April 30th with DISPLAY STATS and Senior 35+ must include Date of Birth for every player! Final rosters for all divisions must be on website by June 30th when they will be frozen for remainder of season and playoffs.

    Playoff eligibility

    Players must meet league eligibility requirements to participate in playoff games. Mandatory matching uniforms, with hats. Numbers posted on site, with current statistics. Each player must have a differentiating number. Players failing to meet the minimum standards for at-bats, games played or innings pitched cannot play in playoffs. Any player must provide a photo id at the time of pre-meeting with the umpires and opposing manager or player will not be eligible to play. The only exception is if there is an injury or other extenuating circumstances (i.e. military service) and this must be approved by the league no later than July 15th. [2 per team max] for playoff eligibility.

    Illegal / borrowed players

    The use of a player not officially on a team's roster will cause said team an automatic forfeit, player suspended for season/playoffs, manager suspended minimum one game and league e-mail sent league wide about illegal player and suspensions. Exceptions to avoid a forfeit, a team may request a player from a team in another division. Must be approved by Commissioner or league official. Player must not be a pitcher. Manager is asked to submit player stats after game to Commissioner for input.

    Former pro approval

    Any former professional player must be approved by President & commissioners to play in the League and just fill out and file the proper reinstatement forms with the league.

    Photo IDs at games

    Photo Ids- for insurance requirements as well as integrity of the league, all managers are required to have photo id copies of all players on rosters available at all games.

    Ex-pro & mid-week limits

    Ex Pro Player and LISM Mid-Week Guideline Play in Summer Divisions Division Allowances of Ex Pro Players Level 1 Player - a player who has appeared on AAA/MLB Roster last 5 years Level 2 Player - a player who has appeared on AA/A Roster last 5 years Level 3 Player - a player who has only played Rookie/Independent League Baseball Amateur Player - a player who has never played any Pro Baseball or who has not played Pro Ball within last 10 years DIVISION 1 - 1 LEVEL 1, 2 LEVEL 2, UNLIMITED LEVEL 3 [LEVEL 1 & 2 PITCH AFTER 5 YEARS, LEVEL 3 CAN PITCH] DIVISION 2 - 0 LEVEL 1, 1 LEVEL 2, 3 LEVEL 3 [LEVEL 3 ONLY CAN PITCH] DIVISION 3 - 0 LEVEL 1, 0 LEVEL 2, 1 LEVEL 3 [LEVEL 3 ONLY CAN PITCH] DIVISION 4/4A - NO EX PRO PLAYERS CAN PLAY AT ALL DIVISION ALLOWANCES OF LISM /Mid-Week Players [not permitted to pitch] Division 1 3 Mid-Week Players Division 2 2 Mid-Week Players Division 3 1 Mid-Week Players Division 4 0 Mid-Week Players ADDENDUM - Players including Pitchers can play in Division 1 and 2 and the new Divisions [American, Seniors 35+, Prop Plus].     Injury / military exemptions

    Roster Exemptions for Injury / Military Service must be submitted in writing to Board of Commissioners and League President prior to July 15th, maximum 2 per team. Proof of exemption may be requested to confirm.

  8. 44

    Manager with 2 teams

    Manager Requesting 2 teams -- A manager can have a in D1/D2 team, D2/D3, D3/D4. *Each team at minimum must have 14 separate total players on the roster for each squad. *Higher Division team can designate a pool of 5 players to play for Lower Division team, they cannot pitch for the Lower Division team, nor can they be changed during the season. They can only be used if the lower team has less than 9 players, lower Division players must play if at games and available. *If the Higher Division team is short players for a particular game, they must contact a Board member for a max of up to 3 players from the Lower Division team for approval and they cannot pitch for the Higher Division. *If the Lower Division team is short players for a particular game, they must contact a Board member for a max up to 3 players from other teams or a replacement team. *No crossover games between the 2 teams and players from both teams are permitted to play in Mid-Week. Special Note: a manager with 2 teams across more than one Division [D1/D3, D1/D4, D2/D4] cannot have any players playing on opposite squads unless grandfathered from previous years.

    Manager with 3 teams

    Manager Requesting 3 teams -- A manager can have a D1, D2 and D2 team, D1, D2 and a lower Division team or a D2, and 2 lower Division teams. Pitches can only pitch for one team and there will be restrictions on the number of players that will be allowed to play on cross rosters.

    DOB & senior age

    all division teams will now be required to list a date of birth for every player on the roster and check off 'Display Stats.' In the Senior Divisions, there will be a penalty for using a player not eligible by age. 1st Violation - game forfeited. 2nd Violation - team subject to being dropped from schedule after review by Board of Directors.
